Lowrance has added a new model to its trolling motor lineup with the release of the Ghost X, a 47-inch freshwater unit that promises improved positioning, a meaningful boost in thrust, and quieter operation than the motor it follows.
According to Navico Group's Jeremiah Clark, the Ghost X was shaped directly by feedback from anglers in the field, with each refinement targeted at the realities of how people fish today. One of the most immediately noticeable changes is an upgraded directional LED indicator. Raised chevrons improve visibility under bright conditions, making it straightforward to check both sonar and motor alignment from any position on the boat.
Thrust output has been increased by 20 percent over the original Ghost, giving anglers the ability to push through dense weed beds, maintain position in fast-running rivers, and hold steady when gusty crosswinds complicate boat control. The extra power comes without any sacrifice to noise levels. Lowrance describes the Ghost X as its quietest motor to date, a quality that matters when fishing shallow or clear water where a noisy motor can put fish down before a cast is even made.
Control flexibility has been broadened as well. The Ghost X works with the standard foot pedal setup and integrates with Lowrance multifunction displays through NMEA 2000. An optional GPS remote is planned for release later in 2025, giving anglers the ability to adjust speed and position from anywhere on board. That remote includes a Cruise Control button to hold a consistent speed over ground. A new LED light ring fitted to the motor housing provides at-a-glance feedback on operating mode, pairing status, and remaining battery life.
Sonar capability is built in from the start. The Ghost X ships with an Active Imaging™ 3-in-1 nosecone as standard, delivering down, side, and 3D views, and the motor is compatible with ActiveTarget™ 2 live sonar. It produces zero electromagnetic interference, so sonar image quality is never compromised by the motor itself.
Several proven features carry over from the original Ghost. Fly-by-wire steering delivers cable-like responsiveness without the upkeep that physical cables require. A 360-degree breakaway mount is designed to absorb the kind of impacts that come with fishing tight structure, and a dual-action gas spring makes stowing and deploying the motor more manageable. The unit runs on both 24- and 36-volt systems, meaning anglers can switch without replacing existing chargers or battery setups.
In New Zealand, the Ghost X is priced from NZD $6,929 at the time of writing, and it comes backed by a lifetime shaft warranty and a three-year motor warranty. Anglers who already own the original Ghost will be able to upgrade through a retrofit kit that brings the new precision indicator to their existing motor.
