Advertising and Sponsored Content Policy
GoBoating.nz is partly funded by advertising and commercial partnerships. This policy sets out how we distinguish commercial content from independent editorial content.
Editorial independence
Advertising and commercial relationships never determine, influence, or restrict our independent editorial coverage. No advertiser or sponsor has the ability to approve, edit, or veto editorial content, including content about their own products, events, or organisation.
Display advertising
Display advertising, such as banners and video pre-roll, appears alongside our content but is visually distinct from it and is never presented as editorial content.
Sponsored content
Where content is paid for, produced in partnership with, or commissioned by a commercial partner, it is clearly labelled as sponsored, partner content, or similarly, at the top of the article, so readers can immediately identify it as commercial in nature.
Sponsored event and race coverage
Where GoBoating.nz covers an event, race, or organisation that is also a commercial partner or advertiser, this relationship is disclosed where relevant, and the coverage itself is produced to the same editorial standard as any other independent story.
Native advertising and press releases
Content sourced from a press release or supplied directly by a business or organisation is disclosed as such, in line with our Editorial and Publishing Principles.
Reader trust
We believe readers have a right to know when they are looking at independent journalism versus paid content. If you believe an item of sponsored or commercial content has not been properly labelled, please let us know at editor@goboating.nz
