Editorial and Publishing Principles
GoBoating.nz is an online-only news and content publisher covering boating, boating culture, and the marine industry in New Zealand. These principles govern how we research, write, edit, and publish everything that appears on the site.
Independence
Editorial decisions at GoBoating.nz are made independently of advertisers, sponsors, and any commercial partners. No advertiser, sponsor, or commercial relationship influences the content, tone, or placement of editorial coverage. Where any commercial content appears, it is clearly labelled as such, in line with our Advertising and Sponsored Content Policy.
Accuracy
We are committed to publishing accurate information. All factual claims, technical specifications, race results, and quotes are checked against primary sources, official results, transcripts, or direct confirmation with those involved wherever possible. Where information cannot be verified, we say so, or we do not publish it.
Sourcing
We use only material that has been explicitly provided, gathered, or verified by our editorial team. We do not fabricate details, quotes, or context. Where content is based on a press release, statement, or third-party source, this is disclosed.
Online-only publishing
GoBoating.nz publishes exclusively online. There is no print edition. This allows us to publish and correct content quickly, and to update stories as new information becomes available, in line with our Corrections Policy.
Fairness and balance
We aim to give fair and accurate representation to all sides of any story, particularly in matters involving disputes, competitive results, or differing accounts of an event. Where a person or organisation is criticised or their conduct questioned, they are given a reasonable opportunity to respond before publication where practicable.
Language and style
All content published on GoBoating.nz is written in New Zealand English, with a consistent editorial style and voice. We write for a broad boating audience, from lifelong sailors to newcomers to the water.
Corrections and accountability
We take errors seriously. Our approach to identifying, correcting, and disclosing errors is set out in full in our Corrections Policy.
Conduct
Our journalists and contributors are expected to act with honesty, fairness, and professionalism in all dealings related to their work for GoBoating.nz, as set out in our Ethics Policy.
