World Sailing has opened its 2026 Performance Coach Scholarship Programme for applications, offering just ten places across a 12-month training pathway. The programme targets coaches working at national level who are helping youth and adult sailors make the step up to international competition.
The centrepiece of the programme is a four-week residential block at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, running from 21 September to 17 October 2026 and delivered in partnership with the Andrew Simpson Performance Academy. Alongside that residential component, participants complete two online modules of four sessions each, with project mentoring continuing throughout the year.
Applications close on 25 June, and successful candidates will be confirmed by 3 July.
The scholarship is directed at coaches whose athletes are moving into international competition. Member National Authorities must first secure World Sailing selection, then work with their National Olympic Committees to complete formal Olympic Solidarity applications.
Fiona Kidd, World Sailing's Head of International Development, described the opportunity as competitive and urged eligible authorities to act promptly. "We are looking for dedicated coaches who are ready to elevate their skills and guide their nations' sailors onto the international stage," she said. "Ten spots is a small number, and we expect stiff competition. All Member National Authorities should get in touch with their National Olympic Committees as soon as possible."
The cohort is capped at ten participants. Visa approval is required before attending, and National Olympic Committee support is needed to cover travel costs.
