The interruption came at a sharp moment. Six teams had begun their first-to-three-point quarterfinal series, competing for the remaining semifinal berths behind top qualifier Oscar Engström, who sealed automatic passage to the final four by winning the round robin stage outright.
The standout story before conditions deteriorated was the quarterfinal between Sweden's Johnie Berntsson and Australia's Cole Tapper. Berntsson raced to a 2-0 lead and looked to be heading for the semifinals, but Tapper and the Kairos Racing crew won the next two races to level the series at 2-2 before abandonment called a halt to proceedings.
Sweden's seven-time Match Cup champion Björn Hansen and France's Ange Delerce are locked at 1-1 after an evenly fought opening exchange.
The remaining quarterfinal sees American skipper Chris Poole and Riptide Racing, champions in 2024, holding a 2-1 advantage over defending 2025 winner Jeppe Borch of Denmark. Two recent Match Cup Sweden champions, both with title ambitions intact.
The Women's Trophy quarterfinals were completed before conditions closed in, confirming the semifinal lineup. Sweden's Anna Östling and Wings Sailing advanced 3-1 over American Caroline Bayless and Team Something Chill. France's defending champion Pauline Courtois and the Match in Pink Team were clinical, sweeping compatriot Julia D'Amodio and Shark Caviar Racing 3-0, while Denmark's Lea Vogelius and WOW Racing took the remaining spot with a 3-1 win over the Netherlands' Julia Aartsen and Team Out of the Box.
Those three now join top seed Martina Carlsson and Beyond Racing, who earned an automatic semifinal berth after going 7-0 through the round robin.
Strong winds are forecast to continue across Marstrand on Friday, though the worst of the cold front is expected to clear overnight. Racing is scheduled to resume Friday morning, weather permitting, with Open quarterfinal conclusions and Women's semifinals both on the agenda.
