Two developing nations crack Gold Fleet after 470 Worlds clinic

1 min read

Two of the five teams that attended a pre-Worlds coaching clinic for developing 470 nations qualified for the Gold Fleet at the World Championships.

The Emerging Nations Clinic was organised by the 470 Class ahead of the Worlds, with Class President Igor Marenić leading the on-water sessions. He stayed on throughout the regatta to support the teams as they raced.

Angola, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea, and Thailand made up the five-team group.

Two Gold Fleet qualifiers from five developing nations is the kind of result that justifies a programme. Marenić's presence didn't end at the clinic's closing session, which matters.

After racing, Seldén provided equipment vouchers to all five teams, covering three spinnaker poles, one boom, and one mast per team. It's a practical haul for programmes that often race on ageing or mismatched kit.

The 470 Class has positioned the clinic as part of a broader push to make the class more competitive and inclusive globally. Seldén's backing puts tangible equipment support behind what might otherwise remain well-intentioned words.
