The 580 Regal has a history stretching back to the early days of Sea Nymph, a New Zealand builder that had already accumulated more than three decades of continuous production by the time the new millennium arrived. The brand had built its reputation on hulls that could handle rough water without fuss, and the 580 Regal proved to be one of its most enduring designs.
The first hull hit the water in 2004, and when it was tested two years later, it was already winning admirers as a family trailer boat with genuine offshore capability. The test was anything but gentle. Launched straight into Tasman Sea swell off Raglan and driven hard, the boat gave a clear account of itself. The deep vee hull tracked cleanly upwind, touched down softly after each crest, and held its composure through steep, short-interval seas. Power delivery was strong, the ride quiet, and the deck layout struck a practical balance between cockpit space and shelter that made it at home on a fishing trip, a ski run, or a family day out.
When the same hull came back for re-evaluation roughly a decade later, the badge on the bow had changed. Sea Nymph had evolved into Nereyda, though the 580 Regal itself had never left the production line. The follow-up review shifted focus away from punishment testing and toward the rhythms of everyday use. Updated screens, revised bowrails, refreshed seating, and a new range of engine options repositioned the boat around harbour running and family day boating. On the water, the character that had defined the original remained intact. Early planing, predictable handling through turns, and a consistently dry ride were still the qualities that stood out.
The 580 Regal outlasted the branding cycles that surrounded it. The model is no longer in production but continues to attract strong interest among trailer boat enthusiasts. Sea Nymph and Nereyda 580 Regal boats come to market from time to time.
