Gyroscopic stabiliser specialist Smartgyro has introduced a battery power integration for its SG20 stabiliser, giving owners the ability to maintain full stabilisation performance without needing the generator running.
The development is a direct response to one of the more persistent comfort complaints aboard mid-sized motor yachts. Generators in the 40 to 55 foot range often run at high RPMs and can flood the interior and cockpit with background noise, making quiet evenings at anchor or uninterrupted overnight stays difficult to enjoy. By pairing the SG20 with an onboard battery pack, Smartgyro has found a way to deliver the same stabilisation performance in near silence.
"Owners today expect comfort that is seamless and quiet," said Carlo Gazerro, Sales Manager at Smartgyro. "This integration answers a clear need by delivering powerful stabilisation without the constant hum of a generator. It gives owners more freedom and makes the system easier for dealers to recommend and tailor."
Designed for the 40 to 55 foot segment, the SG20 can now run silently for extended periods on battery power alone. Whether the priority is a relaxed dinner at anchor, an overnight stay in a quiet bay, or simply some peaceful time on the water between passages, the system operates without the generator needing to run in the background.

The project grew out of conversations with owners who had made clear they wanted reliable stabilisation without the trade-off of continuous generator use. Smartgyro took that feedback seriously and developed a power solution flexible enough to maintain full system reliability while drawing from battery storage rather than a running generator.
Fabrizio Stifani, R&D Manager at Smartgyro, pointed to the collaborative process behind the update. "We work closely with owners and shipyards to improve comfort, efficiency, and onboard experience," he said. "This project is the result of that dialogue and is already delivering strong results in the field."
*Proven in service*
The integration has already been tested in real-world conditions aboard a Ferretti 52, with the SG20 paired to a 6 kWh battery pack from Mastervolt. After two years of operation, the combination continues to deliver consistent stabilisation alongside extended periods of silent running, confirming both the performance and durability of the setup.
Approved configurations currently include Mastervolt systems, with a Victron option to follow.
