Scanstrut DS-HSL-01 routes Starlink cables through the hull with no cutting required

2 min read

Most people who fit a Starlink dish to their boat find the physical mounting relatively straightforward. The real headache comes when the cable needs to travel from the roof into the cabin. Sealant that shrinks and cracks over time, glands that can't cope with a bulky connector, cutting the plug off and hoping a field re-termination holds, none of these workarounds sit comfortably on any vessel worth caring about.

Scanstrut's DS-HSL-01 takes a more considered approach. The unit comes supplied with five interchangeable split bungs covering cable diameters from 2mm to 8mm, plus a blank self-drill bung for anything outside that range. The critical feature is the split design itself: each bung opens in two halves, allowing the cable and its connector to pass through completely intact, with no cutting required. Once in position, captive nuts draw the housing firmly against the mounting surface, with no sealant needed and no mess to deal with afterwards.

The housing projects only 29mm above the roof surface, routing the cable horizontally along the deck rather than upward into the air. That low, flat profile reduces the leverage that foot traffic or a passing line can place on the entry point, and it produces a finished installation that looks considered rather than improvised. Maximum connector clearance is 16mm, which comfortably handles the larger plugs found on the Starlink Gen 3 platform.

Straight from the box, the DS-HSL-01 is compatible with Starlink Performance, Enterprise, Standard and Mini (all Gen 3), as well as NMEA and RJ45 cables. It suits solar panel wiring, light bar feeds, and any other rooftop cable run where a clean, professional finish matters.

The unit is built from marine-grade UV-stable high-impact plastic throughout, carries an IP68 rating, and is backed by a three-year warranty. At 88mm in length, it is available in grey (DS-HSL-01) or black (DS-HSL-01-BLK).
