Eleven apprentices have graduated from Riviera Australia's Academy of Excellence, the latest milestone for a training scheme that has now produced more than 400 marine industry professionals since it began in 1993.
The graduates were recognised at a celebration held at Riviera's Yacht Club on the Gold Coast, attended by mentors, trainers and company leaders.
Riviera Australia owner Rodney Longhurst addressed the graduates, praising their dedication and urging them to keep building on the skills and confidence gained during their apprenticeships.
"You are advancing your skills, your confidence and your belief in yourselves," Mr Longhurst said. "This is a significant achievement, but it is also the beginning of an exciting journey of learning and growth. Stay focused, keep developing and more opportunities will come."
The 11 graduates completed nationally recognised Certificate III qualifications spanning electrotechnology, marine craft construction, composite technologies, machining and mechanical trades, gaining specialist skills used in the construction of Riviera's motor yachts.
Among them was Benjamin Griffiths, who completed a Certificate III in Electrotechnology after starting out as a school-based apprentice. "I quickly discovered I enjoy problem-solving and working with advanced electrical systems," he said. "Riviera has given me the opportunity to build valuable skills and develop a career in an industry I enjoy."
Shayla Mulcahy graduated as a qualified Timber and Composites Machinist. "I am looking forward to continuing to learn and working with new technologies that help improve the way we build our Riviera yachts," she said.
The apprenticeship programme runs alongside Riviera's Propel initiative, a four-year personal development scheme focused on leadership, communication, personal growth and outlook, alongside the vocational training.
Apprentice and Training Manager Keira Badke congratulated the group on reaching the milestone. "The skills you have developed and the challenges you have overcome have brought you to this achievement. You should all be incredibly proud."
Since its founding in 1993, Riviera's Academy of Excellence has helped shape more than 400 marine industry professionals, underpinning career pathways within Australia's marine manufacturing sector.
