Australia's largest luxury motor yacht builder has opened a dedicated Yacht Club at its Gold Coast headquarters, deepening its relationship with owners in a tangible way. The facility sits on the waterfront within Riviera's 16.8-hectare manufacturing complex, offering panoramic glass views across the company's marina and the procession of yachts awaiting delivery to their new owners.
The club is conceived as far more than a showroom or reception space. It serves as a genuine gathering point for the worldwide Riviera community, a place where new owners can commission their vessels, learn the systems inside out, and connect with others who share the same passion for life on the water.
Central to the club's purpose is a commissioning programme run by the Customer Support Team in close partnership with Riviera dealerships. Owners work through multi-day vessel familiarisation sessions covering practical boating exercises, systems training, and equipment simulations, all designed so that by the time someone steps aboard for the first time as captain, they do so with real confidence. An interactive electronics and electrical display helps owners understand and choose the onboard technology that suits them best.
Creativity is also part of the offering. An interior design studio gives owners the opportunity to select finishes, fabrics, layouts, and accessories, ensuring each yacht reflects its owner's individual taste rather than arriving as a generic product. A Riviera boutique rounds out the experience, stocking yachting apparel alongside fine crockery, cutlery, and glassware suited to refined entertaining aboard.
Beyond commissioning and outfitting, the club will serve as a venue for exclusive training sessions, private launch events, and celebrations with family and friends.
Riviera's history stretches back to 1980, when the company was founded on the shores of Sydney Harbour. Within a year it had relocated to a purpose-built facility on the Gold Coast, which has since grown into the largest luxury yacht building complex in the Southern Hemisphere. More than 6,000 yachts have been launched over those 45-plus years, each one carrying the hallmarks of ocean-tested construction, careful finishing, and a balance between performance and comfort that has built the brand's reputation across international markets.
The business remains family-owned, led today by Rodney Longhurst at the head of a team of more than 850 craftspeople and marine specialists. Five distinct model lines, the Sport Yacht, SUV, Sports Motor Yacht, Flybridge, and Belize series, span a range from 39 to 78 feet. More than 55 percent of annual production leaves Australia, with Riviera yachts regularly encountered in the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, the Pacific Northwest, and New Zealand waters. Every hull combines current marine technology, including joystick steering, digital switching, and the Volvo Penta IPS system, with the kind of hands-on craftsmanship that gives each vessel its character.
Buying into Riviera, the company has always maintained, is an introduction to a community as much as a purchase. Owners frequently describe forming lasting friendships through events, regattas, and shared cruises around the world.
That sense of belonging was on full display at the opening night, where the ribbon-cutting honours went to Syd and Barb Yates, a couple whose connection with Riviera stretches back nearly two decades. Their path to the brand began when they travelled from Papua New Guinea to Australia specifically to find a boat.
"Our first boat was a little 21-foot banana boat," Syd recalled with a grin. "Stepping up to a Riviera was daunting, but the R Marine team took the time to understand us, not just what we needed, but who we were."
For Barb, the standout memory from their years with Riviera is three months spent living aboard in the Whitsundays. "The other Riviera owners we met were amazing. We went to the outer reef, sat on sandbars, and shared champagne, prawns, and lobsters. What more can I say?"
Looking at the new club, the Yates saw it as consistent with everything they have come to expect from the brand. In their view, it is "another example of the commitment Rodney and Riviera have towards enhancing our experience as part of the Riviera family. Why would you buy a boat anywhere else!"
Rodney Longhurst addressed guests at the opening, drawing a direct line between the effort that produced the club and the effort that goes into every yacht that leaves the factory floor. "The same sweat, tears, and drive that has gone into the building of this yacht club is the same as we invest every single day in building our motor yachts," he told the gathering. "We want you to have a wonderful Riviera experience here, as well as out on the water."
For the more than 6,000 Riviera owners around the world, the Yacht Club now stands as a permanent home base, honouring not just the vessels the company builds, but the people who take them to sea and the memories made along the way.
