A coaching clinic for sailors from emerging and developing 470 nations will be held in Enoshima ahead of the 2026 470 World Championship, offering a structured pathway into one of the season's biggest events.
The five-day programme is led by Igor Marenić, Olympic gold medallist and two-time World Champion in the class. Participation is limited, with teams selected by the 470 Class Management and the Class President. Interested teams can apply by emailing president@470.org with an introduction and some background on their sailing experience.
Day one sets the foundation with campaign planning, championship mindset, and boat preparation, alongside on-the-water sessions focused on boat handling, communication, and speed at the Enoshima venue. Day two targets boat speed, setup, and starting techniques through speed testing, starting drills, and short practice races.
Day three shifts to racing skills, covering tactics, race preparation, decision-making, mark roundings, and fleet management. The fourth day takes a practical turn, walking teams through measurement procedures, regatta administration, daily routines, and championship-style training exercises.
The clinic concludes on 11 August with the Official World Championship Practice Race. Participating teams follow the same routines as a championship race day before taking part in the race itself, then come together for a final debrief with individual feedback and key learning points.
The aim is to help developing nations build confidence, sharpen their racing skills, and arrive at the 2026 World Championship better prepared for competition.
