Greta Pilkington has slotted herself into contention at the ILCA 6 Women's World Championships, banking three top-10 finishes on day one in Dún Laoghaire to sit sixth overall.
The New Zealander posted 10th, fourth and third across the day's three races, leaving her just four points off the pace in a fleet of 108 boats.
Conditions on Dublin Bay were far from gentle. Sailors faced an offshore breeze ranging from 12 to 20 knots, gusting to 25, with the current chopping up the racecourse and making consistency hard to find. Amid that, Pilkington was among the steadiest performers in the fleet.
American Charlotte Rose leads the championship on three points after a 1-2-2 scoreline, level with Belgian two-time world champion Emma Plasschaert. Denmark's Anna Munch sits third on six points, with Pilkington firmly in the mix just behind the leading trio.
Two more races are scheduled for tomorrow to complete the preliminary series before the fleet moves into the next phase of the championship.
The 2026 ILCA 6 Women's World Championships run from 5 to 12 September, with racing hosted off the National Yacht Club and Royal St George Yacht Club in Dún Laoghaire, Ireland.
