A technical fault identified on Saturday morning has put Bluebridge Cook Strait sailings out of action through to Thursday evening. Will Dady, spokesperson for StraitNZ, the company behind Bluebridge, confirmed the disruption.
"Our engineers are doing everything they can to have the issue resolved ahead of this weekend's sailings," Dady said.
The vessel at the centre of the problem normally runs four return trips between Wellington and Picton daily. Bluebridge's fleet amounts to just two ships, with Livia being the only remaining vessel in service, leaving the company with little room to manoeuvre. Dady said freight and passengers were being moved onto alternative sailings where space permitted, and refunds were on offer for anyone who could not be rebooked.
"We're disappointed about the disruption caused and apologise to our customers unreservedly."
The same ferry had sailings cancelled earlier this month due to a technical fault.
On the other side of the strait, Interislander was experiencing strong demand for vehicle spaces across its services. "Vehicle bookings are continually monitored and if any space becomes free due to cancellations or changes, it is published on our website," the company said. Interislander added that foot-passenger availability remained on many sailings.
