Purpose-built for the harshest conditions on water and dry land alike, Garmin's new JL Audio AP Amplifier range promises powerful, clean sound in a compact and rugged package. Engineered to handle the rigours of boating, off-road driving, and power sports use, the series is aimed squarely at those who refuse to compromise on audio quality no matter where they take their vessel or vehicle.
At the heart of the range is a Class D architecture, which allows the amplifiers to deliver stronger output while drawing less from the battery than conventional Class AB designs. For modern boats juggling a full suite of electronics, that efficiency advantage is a genuine practical benefit, and it comes without sacrificing the punch and clarity that a premium audio system demands.
Four models make up the lineup, covering a broad spread of applications. The entry point is a 200 watt RMS four-channel unit that includes Bluetooth technology and an AUX input, enabling direct audio streaming from a compatible smartphone. Those chasing deeper bass can turn to the 300 watt RMS monoblock, which is purpose-designed to drive a single subwoofer. A 300 watt RMS four-channel model offers more flexibility, capable of powering four pairs of speakers or two pairs combined with a subwoofer. Sitting at the top of the range, the flagship 600 watt RMS six-channel amplifier uses staggered power distribution to run up to six pairs of speakers, or four speakers alongside a subwoofer.
Three of the four models come equipped with Easy Tune technology, bringing digital setup, speaker protection, and audio optimisation to the mix. Adjustments can be made manually through an integrated top-panel LCD display, keeping physical controls accessible and straightforward when out on the water.
