When Barletta Boats announced it would bring Seakeeper Ride technology to the pontoon segment, it signalled something the industry had not seen before. Active underway stabilisation, long the domain of monohulls and larger powerboats, was finally arriving on a class of vessel that had gone without it despite widespread popularity.
The partnership between Barletta and Seakeeper represents a genuine industry first. Pontoon owners have traditionally accepted the limitations of their hull form when it comes to ride comfort, but that baseline is now being challenged in a meaningful way.
Seakeeper Ride addresses motion at its source, actively managing roll, pitch, and yaw while the boat is underway. Rather than requiring the skipper to intervene, the system relies on onboard sensors and proprietary software to make continuous real-time adjustments automatically. On vessels up to around 55 feet, the technology is capable of reducing pitch and roll by as much as 70 percent. The practical effect is a ride that feels considerably more settled, whether the boat is pushing through chop, crossing wakes, or carrying passengers distributed unevenly across the deck. Over the course of a day on the water, that reduction in motion translates directly into less fatigue for everyone aboard.
Integrating the system into a pontoon platform required more than a straightforward installation. Barletta worked alongside Seakeeper's engineering team to modify parts of the aft running surface and develop a mounting solution specific to this application. The goal was to ensure the technology performs at its full potential without affecting deck layout or comfort, and without undermining Barletta's existing construction advantages, including its dual I-beam chassis and Vibration Isolation Pad technology.
The software calibration on Barletta pontoons has also been tailored to suit how these boats are used. The system allows the hull to bank naturally into turns while keeping the deck level as people move around. Steering response becomes more precise, and the skipper is not left making constant small corrections to compensate for unsettled conditions.
Recognition from within the industry has followed. The Barletta and Seakeeper collaboration received a Boating Industry Innovation Award at the 2026 Minneapolis Boat Show, an acknowledgement that the technology delivers genuine, measurable improvements on the water.
New Zealand buyers have a clear path to access this technology. Seakeeper Ride is available locally through Absolute Marine, and Barletta Pontoons are represented in New Zealand by NZ Powersports. The 23 Lusso and 25 Lusso are the initial models offered with the system fitted, with wider availability planned as the rollout progresses.
For anyone who spends regular time on a pontoon and values a comfortable, predictable ride with less effort behind the wheel, this development carries real weight. Not a cosmetic upgrade, it is a substantive change to how these boats behave on the water.
