Aquila 45 Sport catamaran breaks cover at Palm Beach with twin V12 power

4 min read

The Palm Beach International Boat Show 2026 saw Aquila Catamarans debut the 45 Sport, the flagship model of its Sport range. Sitting at the top of a three-boat lineup built around performance and on-water enjoyment, the 45 Sport pairs genuine speed with the space and comfort needed for extended time aboard.

Florida-based Yacht Design Works partnered with Aquila on the project, and the influence of luxury SUV aesthetics is clear throughout the design. Sharp, modern lines give the boat a bold visual character, while the broad catamaran beam delivers the stability and seakeeping performance the concept calls for.

The aft cockpit is the social heart of the 45 Sport. Hydraulic flip-down terraces on the hull sides push the usable beam outward from 15 to 19 feet, drawing guests closer to the waterline and considerably expanding the deck footprint. Two U-shaped seating configurations convert into a large sunbed, while an optional BBQ and television outfit the galley for full-day entertaining. A slide-out stainless-steel swim ladder fitted with teak steps makes getting in and out of the water straightforward.

Forward, the bow opens into a full-beam gathering space of its own. Forward-facing sun loungers with flip-down armrests are accompanied by cup holders and phone storage, and the central bow hatch gives direct access to the anchoring system. Dedicated hatches on each side provide storage for fenders and dock lines.

A wide hardtop roof stretches across the deck, incorporating integrated racks for water sports gear. A concealed aft electrical slide-out awning extends when shade is needed, and concealed LED lighting fitted throughout the vessel makes for a striking appearance once the sun goes down.

Twin 600 HP Black Mercury Verado V12 engines power the 45 Sport, and double-stepped hull technology puts top speeds above 50 mph within reach, with efficient cruising between 30 and 40 mph. The hull form is shaped to minimise drag and improve efficiency, built using a vinylester vacuum infusion process common to the entire Aquila range. The 45 Sport carries CE certification for B, C, and D classes.

The SUV-inspired aesthetic carries through to the helm, where style and practicality sit comfortably alongside each other. Four forward-facing seats arranged side by side, complete with armrests and flip-down bolster cushions, give the helm team a comfortable and well-sheltered position. Controls for digital switching, the stereo system, colour-changing LED lighting, chartplotters, and engine functions are all ergonomically arranged for ease of use.

The electronics fit-out includes three recessed 16-inch chartplotters, a Fusion Apollo marine stereo system, and a C-Zone 5-inch display for DC digital switching. The C-Zone system also manages an optional lithium house battery arrangement that powers an off-grid DC air-conditioning system as well as LED underwater and above-deck lighting. A hot and cold freshwater shower, stainless-steel safety gates on both sides of the vessel, and generous storage throughout the deck hatches and beneath the seating complete the above-deck specification.

Down below, the cabin is fitted out with light wood laminate furniture, matching hardwood trim, and synthetic flooring that requires minimal upkeep. A generous ceiling skylight draws natural light into the space. A king-size bed and a large private wet head with shower equip the cabin for overnight stays, with LED accent and reading lights, upholstered wall panels, plentiful storage, and AC power outlets rounding out the accommodation.

Jean Raas, Chief Product Officer & CEO of Aquila USA, summed up the thinking behind the model. "Versatility is key to the 45 Sport – it's built for hosting large groups through to private weekend getaways, fast cruising through to relaxing at anchor. Space onboard is abundant and both the bow and stern are social hubs designed to create special moments and lasting memories. It's a perfect balance of comfort and performance with incredible features for entertaining. We are very proud of this model and invite everyone to come and see her at the Palm Beach International Boat Show 2026."

The 45 Sport is on display at PBIBS until 29 March, at the MarineMax booth on Dock 6.

Aquila Catamarans is produced by Sino Eagle Yachts, a manufacturer with a strong global reputation for advanced composite construction. The boats are built at a purpose-designed facility to demanding standards, a foundation that underpins the company's standing in power catamaran development. Aquila's move into sailing catamarans represents a logical extension of that experience, summed up in the company's tagline, "Out there starts here."
