The Long Beach Olympic Classes Regatta runs 13-16 July, with more than 100 athletes from around the world racing off Belmont Shore, the venue set to host Olympic sailing at LA28.
Now at the halfway point of the Olympic quadrennial, the event has firmly established itself as one of the premier regattas on the World Sailing Grand Slam circuit. The racecourse is the same one athletes hope to sail in 2028, making time on the water here genuinely valuable.
US Sailing's Director of Olympic Sailing, Molly Vandemoer, put it plainly. "The Long Beach Olympic Classes Regatta is an exciting opportunity for our athletes to test themselves against some of the world's best sailors while continuing to build momentum on the road to LA28," she said. "Competing in Long Beach allows our team to gain invaluable experience in the venue that will host the Olympic sailing competition, and we're eager to see our athletes embrace the challenge, learn from every race, and continue raising the standard for Team USA."
Off the water, the regatta has built a strong community following. Many visiting athletes are staying with local host families, and for a number who return year after year, Long Beach has become a familiar stop on the road to the Games.
All racing is free to watch from the beaches along Belmont Shore and the Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier. Starts are at 2:00 pm each day, Monday through Thursday.
